One question that crops up time and time again, “What is the difference between beard oil and beard balm?”
Most companies like us, you will see offer both. So, do you need both of them? Why? And, what makes them an important part of your grooming routine and your grooming kit?
The short answer is it depends on your personal needs. Beard oil is what we consider basic beard care, helping to moisturize your beard and the skin underneath, while beard balm is more of a styling pomade. But that’s only half the story.
Beard oil is hugely popular right now. If you search the internet, you will be lost with the amount of search results that come up. Now, if your beard naturally stays in the style and position you like, then you might find beard oil to be the better option for you. The beard oil provides all the same valuable vitamins and nutrients that the balm does, but you will find that it does not affect the lasting hold of your beard. So, if you don’t need the extra hold to keep your beard groomed and in place, but you still want the conditioning and enhancing effects, beard oil will likely be your best option.
Beard balm contains all the same types of oils that are in your beard oil. The main difference comes in the ingredients. Balms often have a primary base of cocoa butter, beeswax and shea butter. The effect of this is the waxy, creamy substance that you find with beard balms, which melts away as you rub it into your hands. Similar to beard oil, beard balm provides conditioning for your beard. However, the beard balm will also provide you with the additional hold that you may require to keep your beard well groomed. If you are someone who struggles with keeping a few strays under control, or if you are looking to add some additional enhancements to your style, then balm might be the best option for you. You have all the health enhancing benefits, whilst also keeping your beard tamed.
We all prefer to use both. Personally, I think it adds more shine and conditioning, whilst also giving you that longer lasting hold. Still, my opinion is one out of thousands. As always, you need to find what works best for you and the routine that suits you. That said, if you are a bearded gentleman, I must stress how important it is to pick at least one of these for your grooming routine. If the only thing you do is wash your beard and don’t use specially made beard grooming products, you can cause damage to your hair, resulting in split ends or an uncontrollable mane!
Taking care of your beard is a must. It can be the make or break for your beard style and long-term grooming. If you make sure you look after your beard, then you will never want it to leave your side.
Anyway, I hope that this has given you more reasons to love your beard!
